ABOUT US

Our Mission

Han and Friends’ mission is to teach and inspire kindness and compassion towards animals!

… but how exactly do we do that?

Through art, live animal outreach, puppetry, tabling events and workshops we…

  • educate on responsible pet ownership
  • promote a vegan lifestyle
  • celebrate the diversity of species to spark appreciation towards nature
  • share the special bond between humans and animals

Sam (Human) – Sam has loved animals ever since she was little. She is an animal educator, puppeteer, and pet sitter. She is currently working at the American Museum of Natural History, in their insectarium and vivarium. She is a puppeteer working at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater and with Wonderspark Puppets. She has experience working as an animal outreach educator and animal caretaker at the Art Farm NYC. Her favorite animal are rats.

Han Solo (Dog) – Han was adopted from Animal Haven when he was four months old. Him and his puppy siblings were all named after Star Wars characters. He is a super mutt but primarily Pit Bull Terrier and German Shepherd. Today, Han is five years old. He enjoys going to Prospect Park, going to doggy daycare and taking the subway to new places.

Boba Fett(Cat) – Boba is our first foster fail. Boba was adopted from LIC Feral Feeders. She is a tuxedo cat; half of her nose is pink and the other half is black.

Taffy & Gregory (Guinea Pigs) – Many pets are given away because a lot of people find out that they are allergic to them. This is what happened twice with our guinea pig friend, Taffy. Now she has found her permanent home as part of the Sam and Friends Team. She now even has a boyfriend, Gregory, a neutered male whom we adopted from Renee’s Rabbit Rescue. Together they enjoy eating, sleeping, pooping, and cuddling.

Rocky (Chinchilla) – Loves to sleep in the mornings and run around during the nighttime. He takes daily dust baths to keep clean and chews on apple sticks to maintain proper dental care. Adopted from The Art Farm NYC.

Irwin & Darwin (White’s Tree Frog) – They love jumping, eating crickets, and sitting in their little froiglet (frog toilet).

Hugh (Rabbit) – A lionhead rabbit who pees and poops where ever he pleases. Adopted from The Art Farm NYC. The best cuddle bunny in the world.

Lucy (Curly Hair Tarantula) – A beautiful misunderstood little lady. The only people who should be scared of her are the crickets that she eats. Adopted from the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.

Junior (Russian Tortoise) – Always digging and hiding but loves to come out to eat. He is a little dude with a big appetite!

Madagascar Hissing Roaches Family – Too many to count! They hiss when they get annoyed or feel threatened.

Zach (Human)- Also working at the American Museum of Natural History’s insect exhibits, Zach writes accessible care guides for several different types of pets. Loves bird watching, writing, and spending time his many pets. His favorite animal is the turkey vulture.

In loving memory to all the friends we said goodbye too…
